Poor coonection during landline calls

Danno
Regular

I have been having issues with calling landlines. I can usually hear the person on the other end but they can't hear me. This issue is only a calls to landlines problem as calling mobiles is always fine.

This was happening on my previous sim and phone and I expected an upgrade to resolve the issue with a new sim card and new number, unfortunately the problem still occurs.

I've called Three and they're unsure of the issue.

Hi Maxine,

No I've not been back onto the agents, I've been in touch with agents and the store numerous times and they all went through the same checks,  WiFi calling, change sim card, try different phone, etc etc,  all to no avail,  they all said they had no other complaints about it and it was just me,  then the last one quite a few months ago said three was doing work in the area and refunded me a month's payment saying would be fixed soon.  Nobody at three is acknowledging a problem, but, if you go to this forum and other forums, it's people all over the country and with different handsets, all the same, landlines only cannot make calls.

I just cannot wait for another couple of weeks when I can change to another provider who supports calling to landlines.

But thank you for your response

Hi Pete,

This is just one thread on this forum, there are other threads with the same issue just called something different. "Unable to call landlines", "poor connection during landlines calls",  "calls has poor quality to lanline"  that's just a few on this forum,  on BT forum there are a couple saying three cannot make calls to landlines thinking its a BT error.  There is also Samsung and iPhone forums with threads for the same issues. So all over the UK.

This is exactly the problem, three say no issues and just log people's complaints as network or sim issues, so 2 years now ive not been able to call landlines, or at least I can, but people struggle to hear me.

I seen a couple mentioning the same as well, perhaps the same ones you did. Taking those into account though, it's still a very very small fraction of users. I also noticed in my search that there are users on other networks who mentioned the same issue, and this could indicate that the issue is actually on the landline side of things rather than on the mobile networks.

It's likely that the lack of consistency in the issue combined with the small number of people actually having the issue is making it difficult for the team to isolate.

I'm hopeful that it's something you can get resolved soon, and would recommend keeping in touch with the support team with updates about your issue. You can also register a complaint through the Complaints Page as well.

Pete.

AsemAlhaji mine is still the same, I've been to a three store and had my sim card changed etc, he said its bad signal where I live. Ive been on the phone to them numerous times but still not working, as soon as my three contract is up I'll be moving network, mobile phones that cannot make calls to landlines, its unbelievable

I'm having exactly the same trouble, I have for a year now and tried everything,  three are not interested so I'm paying for a phone that's useless as I am unable to make any calls to landlines as they just cannot hear me, they say the line is crackling.  Did you ever get it resolved?  And if so, how?  Thanks

Hi @Tracy444,

It doesn't look like we've heard anything further from the Original Poster in the meantime. Probably the best place to start in figuring out this issue, is trying to narrow down if it's linked to the phone, SIM/account, or the network.

A few questions that might help with this:

  • Does the issue seem to be in particular locations, or everywhere?
  • Is the issue affecting one, some, or all landlines, do you know if all the numbers you've tested are on one provider such as BT or Virgin?
  • Are you able to test and confirm if the same issue happens with your SIM inserted in another phone?
  • Likewise, can you try a friend or family member's SIM in your phone to check if the same issue happens?
  • Do you know if anyone else on Three is affected in your local area?

I appreciate you might not be able to test or confirm all of these, but any info from the above should help us narrow down the next steps.

Thanks,
Jonathan

JonathanB I've tried everything, it appears its not just me that has trouble with landlines so really don't think it's my phone or sim. Is there any updates from three about this?

Hi Jonathan,  thank you for replying.

Appears to be quite a few people having the same issue.

It's all landlines, I can hear them but they cannot hear me it just breaks up, cannot be my signal as it is great for calling mobiles, it's just landlines.

I've had the sim card changed, I've knocked WiFi calling off, and my friend with the same handset had the exact same problem, appears to be the handset on 2 different S23 ultra,  though not sure about everyone else.

Fledgling

I have the same issue as the others and don't have WiFi calling enabled, full signal 5g, and it only affects landlines.

I'm only calling businesses for this and given they can only hear every other word I say for the topic I'm calling to discuss, I'm not about to ask them what provider they use for their business...

Help please, as this has been going on for many months now and multiple phones, sims, etc.
