Unable to dial out on iPhone, but able to receive calls

For the past week the two of us have had intermittent failure of our two different iPhones to dial out.  They will dial out if they are both turned off and restarted, only to fail again a few calls later. They will receive calls.  This failure to dial out happens with WiFi or with 5G (and the signal is very good).  Is there a problem in our area with the Three network?

How strange @stuartcalder. Have you tried resetting your phone network settings?

I've reset the phone network settings and the result has been the same a rebooting the phone - the first phone call dials out but it fails to dial out for any calls after that unless I reboot again.

I suppose it’s unlikely to be the phone given that your wife is having problems too. Just one thought;before you call tech support on 333 it would be useful if you had another handset to put your sim in to try to repeat the issue. That would categorically rule out any handset issues. Just a thought and the best of luck.

Good idea. I've put the sim into my old iPhone XR and it works! So, it must be something with my  current iPhone 14 that's playing up. Heaven knows what, as I have previously checked all the settings - airplane mode, do not disturb etc.  Also, that wouldn't explain why it works for one phone call immediately after rebooting the iPhone only to fail with subsequent ones. Anyone got any other suggestions...?

Hello.

Is the iPhone XR on a different software version than the iPhone 14?

Pete.

Yes it is 18.3.1 on the iPhone XR compared to 18.3.2 on the iPhone 14.

lol I admit I’ve not got a clue but at least in putting your sim into another handset you’ve narrowed down the cause and I genuinely wish you well. Don’t forget you can always speak to tech support by calling 333 option 4 option 3 for further advice and assistance.

Thanks for the advice.  I rang 333, visited the local Three shop and they replaced the sim. All's working normally now.  Fingers crossed it's not an intermittent phone fault...
