Wifi extender for 5G router NR5103E V2

Fledgling

I need to improve wifi coverage to the back of my house. The router is at the front on a windowsill. Speed is not an issue. I went into a Three store today and they told me about the eero wifi extender available from Amazon. On Amazon it says that the "eero 6 extenders require an existing eero network". I did contact Three support but after being passed around I am not convinced by what they have told me. Has anyone actual experience with this please?

Hey there.

Welcome to the Three Community.

Amazon is correct that in order to start an eero Mesh network, you'll need at least 1 eero router before you can connect the eero extenders. In most cases, you are going to want at least 2 units. The router that plugs into your hub, and the extender that extends the network.

Alternatively, you can buy a wireless extender that piggy backs off your existing Wifi. These are generally cheaper, but don't create a mesh network. Depending on your needs, that might or might not be an issue.

Pete.

Hi. Many thanks for your reply. It's worrying that I could have spent £100 on buying an Eero extender based on the advice I received from a Three store and their Support. I must admit to being a bit confused about Mesh which I have not come across before. Have done some research and understand that it would provide better coverage but at a price. TP Link appear to get good reviews and from what I can tell their RE300 model would work with my 5G hub. Any thoughts?

Hi @skt,

The team can't provide recommendations on TP hardware, but I can confirm Eero devices have been tested with our Broadband by our Technology teams.

It may be worth checking out other topics on the Community by searching terms like mesh, extender, TP Link, and Eero to see what other customers have shared about their experiences though.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience in store, if you'd like to share a bit more feedback about a specific store or staff member, please send me a PM and I'll be happy to pass it on. You can find the option to send me a private message on my profile page: @JonathanB

Thanks,
Jonathan
