5G Broadband dropouts

MacDavidson
Fledgling

Hi folks,

So I got Three’s 5G broadband and get great speeds, with great coverage around the house. But at various times each day (for no apparent reason), it just disappears from being available as a wifi device for around 10 minutes, or until reset. The Mac connected by CAT7 cable is unaffected, and all lights remain as they should.

I’ve positioned the router in various places, tried changing the APN from 3internet to three.co.uk, and reset several times.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I have 2.4 and 5 GHz on at the same time? 2.4 GHz is slower, but I need that for the smart gadgets in the house, but speed is what it’s all about…

Thanks in advance for your time

Changing to ipv4 only let's me connect to 4g I loose 5g .

And I had a drop out while trying 4g

So no solution as far as I am concerned.

Surely rolling back the firmware for all thats struggling is the only viable option and would be quick fix.3 can't or won't fix the doomed firmware and there's no alternative units that they haven't broke to exchange .

Yes, best solution for all is to roll back the firmware to the previous one, may have been B09. Cheaper than losing customers and replacing routers. I think that they removed the test menu is this latest firmware version to stop users messing with 5g settings. Maybe that's why they won't revert?

Dear JonathanB, let me break this down to you into a few sentences so we are on the right page and please don't take it personally.

There is a major problem with the company where you're currently employed. There is a problem that affects pages upon pages of users. Speaking with customer service or any broadband 'experts' from Three is becoming more and more frustrating than anything! Their 'solution' is either change the router (i'm on my 3rd as we speak) or cancellation without the closing fee. I used to work in this line of business and cancelation was the upmost last of the last solution that I would offer. I would be litteraly fired on the spot if that was the solution just to get rid of paying clients. I'm actually surprised of Three's aproach on this. How can this pass Three's marketing/HR department is a mistery for me. anyway, i digress.

I understand you are just a community moderator, but please, send all this to your supervisors! its getting a bit ridiculous at this point. The only reason Three didn't lose clients left and right (even though i'm sure they did) is because its a problem that can be fixed with a restart. but for some users who work from home for example and need a stable connection, this is unacceptable! please get off your a** and send this forum to your supervisors, to ZTE themselves and/or to someone who is actually competent in solving something at your company. Stop waiting for other users for dodgy 'fixes'. Is there any c o m p e t e n t human being working there? I have to remind you the problem is since October! that has to be a record on Three's behalf.

please...pretty please, with sugar on top, solve the f*****g problem. And again..no offence, peace out!

This 'solution' does not work.

Hello,

I'll try, but I think he's having issues again.

Three sent me another hub yesterday as a swap out. Same model same firmware and same problem. I left my ethernet Nas drives and switches and used WiFi only, no difference. I have 27 devices connected.

Okay, created a new apn using ipv4 and 3internet apn. Saved and is still 5g around 200mps. Light for signal is white not blue also.

See how this goes for the next few days.

I'm also getting the same issues with my ZTE MC801a router with the B12 firmware update. Constant dropouts, near impossible to work from home. Been in contact with Three complaints but was told they don't have the Zyxel router to send out which seems to fix other people's issues. All they wanted to do was pass me onto sales to cancel contract and take out a new one with a new router! So frustrating 🤯

Tried the setting for ipv4 only. No difference in drop outs.

Hi,

Any update on this it's costing me money now this situation as my hive heating hub is connected hard wired to the router and when it keeps dropping out it doesn't reset itself and the heating controller loses connection with internet servers so the program goes all over the shop and my heating is coming on at random times!!! I'm getting very angry with this situation as three won't listen and it's costing me money now!

Dropouts were ongoing 4 to 6 times a day still.

I purchased a second hand zyxel NR5103E router. In 24 hours not one issue. So it's nothing to do with tower cells and is the firmware in the ZTE mc801a. I did notice posts with the same issue on the zyxel NR5103E routers a few months back on older firmware, but great now. So hopefully three will fix the ZTE router issue.

Also Jonathan, any chance I can return my ZTE router and get some monthly discount because I'm using my own router?

Thanks.
