Huawei B535-232 Certificate has Expired

cancunia

Apologies for the double post, I put the original in 'Data' by mistake, it looks like it should have been in Broadband..

The certificate on the management web pages for the B535-232 has expired which means it needs a security breach in order to access the management pages. The router is on the latest firmware, but the certificate expired in November:

Software version 11.0.1.2(H200SP5C21)
Web UI version WEBUI 11.0.1.1(W2SP4C21)
Configuration file version B535-232-CUST 10.0.1.2(C21)

👋  Any sign of that promised software update please @JonathanB ?

I want to be able to keep using my B535 router 🙂, as it works (well, worked 😧) just fine ✔️.  Am just fed-up with having to use a different browser in Private Browsing mode to access the router's web page (which I have to do to access the PIN that Three send for security when logging-in to their sites ‼️).

If this is never going to be fixed 😱, could you just say so please?  Alternatively, you are welcome to send me a free new 4G router  😁

Hi @Hunter-RF,

I'm really sorry, I didn't realise I'd missed a post from you. I totally appreciate your frustration here.

The Devices team have advised that the necessary software update had been delayed but should take place in May. I'm sorry that there's not more I can share in terms of details, but my understanding is that we're working with the manufacturer on this issue, and still intend for this to be resolved.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Good day @JonathanB

I look forward to my B535 router receiving the software update (which presumably means that the security certificate has finally been renewed by Huawei?) - I keep rebooting my B535 in hope for this.

Can I also ask for your technical assistance.  I recently experienced terrible speeds, and as part of a Three helpdesk request, I factory reset my B535.  The SpeedTest results are normal again (the fault was with the cell tower/Three systems), but now my mobile phone takes ages to load stuff and I suspect the 'trust' that the phone had before with the router has been lost…  Would this be connected with the B535 having an expired certificate (therefore the 'trust' thing that I think my phone had with the router pre factory reset) ??  Can I do anything, or will this be fixed with the certificate being renewed ???

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Hunter-RF,

I'm not aware of any connection between the two, the certificate just relates to logging into the Admin settings to my knowledge. Apologies again that this hasn't rolled out, but I'm assured it's still being worked on.

I wonder if resetting the hub may mean that there's some cached settings on your phone that are now outdated or invalid causing this issue. Whilst we wait for the software update, I'd suggest to try forgetting the Wi-Fi network on your phone and reconnecting again, and if this fails to improve things, try resetting your network settings on the phone.

Resetting network settings does cause all saved networks and Bluetooth devices to be cleared though, so that's why I'd just try the forget option first.

Thanks,
Jonathan

@JonathanB
I did try your suggestion with my mobile, but it did not work - plus I am suffering expired-certificate related issues with all my devices, so it's the hub certificate that is the common denominator.
Is
there any progress on when Huawei will renew the B535 certificate / Three will implement the roll-out so that all of us B535 users can get our full Three internet service back ????????  I am seriously frustrated now, as this has been going-on for so long, and as the Exact same thing happened a couple of years ago, I would have expected Three to resolve the expired certificate with Huawei before it had actually expired.  Maybe Three have been focusing on the Vodafone merger, and forgetting the poor users that are paying them…
Can I ask, if this is going to be kicked into the long grass again, that you finally escalate it to senior management. My B535 works (worked) just fine on 4G (I don;t have 5G in my town yet), and Three have stopped offering great value deals that I might renew onto (to get a new device). If it would be easier for you guys, I would happily accept a new (actually I'd even take a refurbished !!) free router that actually works.
thanks.

@JonathanB

I tried 'forgetting' the hub as you suggested (thanks) and this changed nothing, but all my devices suffer, so I think it is the router and it's out of date certificate² that is the big issue.

² Can you please tell me when we can expect Huawei to renew the certificate for their B535 devices?  It really has been far far far far too long for this to issue to be continuing, and I would appreciate you to escalate this to the most senior level please.
Three could alternatively provide me with a new (or I would even take a refurbished:) 4G router that isn't a Huawei B535, if Three are not going to get Huawei to do this simple certificate renewal…
(nb I am happy with my good value contract, and there are no value plans available on sale at the moment that I can renew onto.  I just want to continue with my current plan, but with a router that has a valid security certificate - is that too much to ask for ?)

Thank-you.

Hi JonathanB

I have this issue too and struggled living with it for several Months, but if you have a fix: yes please ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️

I did try resetting my router just now, but the expired certificate still lingers 😒, so I guess you have a means of fixing it individually?

Thanks.
