Mobile Broad band with dongle versus Home Broad band

Reynold2022
Fledgling

What is the difference ?

1 - Using a 3 SIM unlimited data plan, in terms of speed - upload & download

2 - The routers are obviously the difference if the SIM are from the same provider network, do the speed drop even thought it is on an unlimited SIM data plan.

3 - If item 2 has no difference, but the cost is the same - for data plan. One is fixed location (Home Broadband) and the other Mobile Broadband. if the router is connected directly into the Ethernet pot of the router - dongle, will the speed change to HSDPA (instead of 5G speeds)

I look forward to your answers.

Hi Reynold2022,

Welcome to the Three Community.

1. Speeds don't vary from plan to plan, Unlimited just gives you assurance that you can't run out of data, and don't need to buy add ons mid-month.

2. Yep the main difference is the capabilities of the device, you'll have an identical SIM whether you go with MiFi, or HomeFi.

3. If I'm understanding the last point correctly, then all things being equal coverage wise, the Home router will perform better as it can connect to 5G (as long as 5G signal is present), and yes as it has ethernet ports you can also avoid packet loss between the router and wired devices.

If in a 4G area, performance is largely the same, but the home router will tend to perform more stably with a larger amount of devices connected than a MiFi would.

Hope this helps.
