Hi @freeflow,

For any areas which currently still only have 3G/H signal, we plan to upgrade the relevant masts to 4G. We don't expect any reduction in coverage overall, and there should be an increase to the network's capacity.

Thanks,
Jonathan

It's the overall lack of clarity really.  What I need to know is when will the 3G service is goung to be switched off

UNLESS

Three/EE are intending to fit the current 3G mast for either 4G or 5G (as a switch off one system and switch over "immediately" to the new system) in which case I can stop worrying.

Things would be clearer if the statement on the website said "we will be shutting down the 3G network in x month, but we will not leave you without service, the mast will be upgraded to 4G at the minimum".

The reason that I need to know is because if an alarm is sounded at an old person's property nearby I am one of those who will be called to check on them by the alram company.

Thanks

It would be worth advertising this fact on the web page where you tell 3G will be switched off this year.

Hi @StillOn3G,

This page about Our plans to switch off 3G explains this. If you're finding other webpages about 3G switch offs which don't detail this, please share the links for them and I can flag this up.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Fledgling

All is well and good, but at the moment I get maybe one bar of 4g, so there needs to be an improvement as the map shows only outdoor 4g in my area, I can not even get a proper voice call here without wifi calling and the phone is my internet back up.

Seems like they are upgrading in my area, confirmed after doing a network status check. I now get 4G+ indoors on full bars today. It use to just be 4G with a bar or two down. Good too see the improvement. Maybe by town is one of the next to have 3G switch off.
