Can all users here please help. I have a sim free Moto g62 5g. When making a call the phone stays on 5g BUT the internet becomes dial up speeds lol. Further investigation reveals that 4g LTE super voice is not working. HALF my research says you have to be on a device purchased from three (flashed with three's firmware indicated by the three logo when booting device). Also you must be on pay monthly NOT pay as you go. Now three customer services adviser, escalation advisor, and manager all insist the opposite. That volte works in any device that is volte compatible (Moto g62 5g it is and has had volte working on another provider). That volte works on pay as you go and the most confusing on any device sim free or from three. Now I understand that whilst some may think I am been petty let me explain why volte is so important and some more confussion. At the start of this issue I was under the impression that an "HD" logo next to the call was indicating volte but it is not the case, the HD logo is "EVS" and is when 2 handsets communicate regardless of 3g 4g 5g volte. Now here's the situation the fault the issue. You have a windows laptop and several other devices connected to Moto g62 5g using hotspot. All fantastic getting 300mb on average and hitting 1gb some days, AWESOME BUT a call comes in on the Moto g62 5g, Moto stays on 5g call is answered now connection drops to 500 kbps say 2 to 5 mb at best. Now I believe this is what volte is ment to solve as it routes your call and text as data over 4g. So one would expect with so much available bandwidth on 5g and even 4g is at 70 to 90mb that you should be able to call and browse with maybe a small reduction in speed whilst been switched down from 5g to 4gvolte. END I will update as required. P.s also is volte available across three network or only certain locations ? reality is in 2022 I am having to use my setup like it's 1999 and I am dialing up to be told "you have mail" lol if your getting on you will remember that.

Yes it is a sim free manafacture firmware (non carrier supplied) I am unable to supply details you asked for until Friday unless android 12 it is running is of help ? Please know I am in need of this matter been dealt with asap. It is causing me BIG issues as this is the setup I am recommending to a small start-up.

Hey @Kevbur123,
I've got a few updates.
For the element where speeds drop when on a call, unfortunately this is expected behaviour. This may change if a "Voice over 5G" feature is introduced, or some other solution where a voice call can be made on 3/4G whilst the data connection stays open on 5G. For now at least, you'll drop onto one of the older network bands for data when you start or answer a call.
The only solution I'm aware of would be to have an additional device whether that be another phone, router, or MiFi to support the data connection. I can appreciate that a solution that doesn't involve setting up more devices and SIMs would be better, but it doesn't look like there is one at the moment.
We don't supply the Moto g62 5G, so I'm not sure how far we'll be able to support with the VoLTE issue, however, a contact confirmed that we did carry out some testing with this phone in the past, and at the time VoLTE was working.
I'm checking if we have any official support agreements from Motorola so that we can report this. As we don't actually sell any of their current handsets this might not be the case. I'll try and get that cleared up as soon as possible.

With respect and appreciation none of that is acceptable! I expect the connection to drop from 5g to 4g, data speeds should stay in the 4g region and piggy back the call text over volte 4g. So real world scenario you are downloading large game on device downloading file on laptop at same time using hotspot over 5g speeds 400 500 mb, call is initiated, data connection drops to 4g, speeds now in the 50mb to 90mb, call is routed over the 4glte which requires maybe 1mb of bandwidth if that. BUT that is not the case, instead the call shows as 5g but speeds go as low as 1mb. Problem has impact on device battery some research suggests.
EE hss seen sense and now gives all pay monthly at least half mb data connection even with no data allowance. Obviously this is to negate the massive issue of RCS (SMS 2.0).messages not been received or sent with no data. Also to carry calls over this half mb connection is what 4g volte is about and will be the gold standard especially when 2g 3g are gone, what networks will we drop back to then. They do this as it is obviously better for everyone network user if calls texts go over 4g or 5g.
As for some of the work arounds I am dubious at best as to them been feesible. Also the use of mifi etc John is suggesting that I use a 3 hotspot from a mifi device so my 5g 850mb plus Moto phone connection has to connect instead to the hotspot ???at best this would give me call over WiFi not really at all logical fix really! also call over WiFi goes hand in hand with volte not working. One method is to use a VoIP app eg Skype. You can then buy a phone number from Skype and a unlimited calling plan. You then divert your incoming calls on 3 to the Skype number. Also set Skype as your default dialer, this then will make all incoming calls on your 3 number connect to your Skype number over any data connection. This will use 1mb if that, the only test I have yet evaluate is any delay in incoming calls i.e caller hears 4 rings but intact you have only just heard 1.
A rather easy way of explaining this is imagine your device was set to use WhatsApp from the start the main system caller dialler and messenger. This is what volte technology and other tech should be doing on a modern 2022 device, but it seems not three shame as speeds are great. I could add so much more info data feedback but I do not see why when no likely solutions can be found. I unfortunately will be testing with other networks over the next few days and initial testing is showing it's not all good at the other networks either SHOCKING. Also calls with a HD logo next to them are NOT VOLTE as a lot of research suggests. VOLTE is independent of the other caller it is YOUR call. In context three expect all of us sim free users to be dropped to a legacy connection whilst on a call which in reality is really sneaky. Your device is showing 5g even whilst on a call. In 2022 we would all expect our calls to be carried over the data connection imagine how much impact on the whole network this issue has. Instead of all of us using small amounts of data using volte which is essentially VoIP WhatsApp call technology, we all get dropped to device battery draining networks. It makes gasp been a tech nerd that I have only just picked up on issue. Wow wow and wow sorry three but head shaking

Thanks @Kevbur123,
Knowing the model and that it's on the manufacturer firmware is enough for me to make some initial enquiries. We might need the exact software version down the line. I'll let you know as soon as I have an update.
